With any browser try to access http://<ipaddress>:<port>/sdata/$System

If it is working correctly you will be prompted for a SalesLogix username & password

Upon entering a legitimate username and password you will be brought to an sData screen, showing some basic sdata information.

If this screen is viewable then your SalesLogix sdata Portal has been deployed and is accessible.

*Information about using SalesLogix Web client with Firewalls, and DMZ's
Entry Type: Informational
Product: Sage CRM SalesLogix
Application: Administrator
Version Reported: 6.x

Description:
If a firewall is being used, certain ports must be opened to enable the Web components to function correctly. Web Host(s) and Web Reporting Servers can be set up in a Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) as long as the ports for the Web sites are open to the outside.

Internally, the Web Host(s) must be able to access the appropriate ports on the Database Server, SalesLogix Server, and the server where the Documents and Library folders reside (typically the Synchronization Server). The Web Reporting Server must also be able to access the appropriate ports on the Database Server and the SalesLogix Server.

Assuming the SalesLogix Web servers sit between two firewalls (one connecting to the outside and the other to the LAN), use the following table as a guideline.

1433 (MS SQL)

*This port number must always be one greater than the port used for the SalesLogix OLEDB Provider.
**The Documents and Library folders may be located on another machine, such as the Administrative Workstation (for example, if synchronization is not being used). Be sure to open the ports on the correct machine.

  1. Create the SalesLogix WebServer - ideally Win2K Server connecting to the SalesLogix Database Server
  2. Install a second Network Interface Card on the WebServer with the appropriate IP Address and Subnet Mask for the DMZ - ensure that IP forwarding is not enabled - use one gateway being the Firewall Appliance (do not put a gateway on the LAN Nic).
  3. Configure the Firewall to forward requests for the SalesLogix WebServer to its DMZ IP Address.
  4. Put an SSL Certificate (preferably 128bit) on the SalesLogix WebServer. This process ensures that SalesLogix Data Packets are encrypted. Depending on number of users and speed, a SSL Accelerator can be installed to ensure that performance is not impaired.
  5. Ensure that Windows Critical Update Control is installed on the WebServer so that the latest patches for the IIS holes that hackers find/create are installed.

Why OnTheGo?

In recent years there has been a considerable shift between mobile devices that people use for personal and business purposes. With storage being at a premium and customer databases having potentially significant amounts of data we decided to pursue a technology that would leverage a true application on a given device and source the data needed on demand. We also wanted to start with the basic data points that most users universally ask for and then build out new capabilities that our users are asking about.

How Does OnTheGo Work?

Any organization that is already using Sage SalesLogix must be on version 7.5, Service Pack 2 or later and have the Sage SData portal deployed and available externally in order to use the OnTheGo platform on an Android or iPhone device. Users of the Sage SalesLogix Cloud Edition can also use OnTheGo as the SData portal is deployed by default when new customer signs up with Sage. Users then simply download OnTheGo and put in their credentials and have access to the Accounts, Contacts, History and Activities for the data they already have access to based on the security model already deployed on their LAN or Web implementation.

Can I Extend OnTheGo?

The best part about deploying OnTheGo for Sage SalesLogix is the ability for our team to extend the platform for a single company or for specific vertical solutions developed by Sage business partners.  The OnTheGo platform can be extended to handle custom entities and custom fields for existing or new entities that have been created to personalize your Sage SalesLogix system.  OnTheGo extensions are sold through your business partner of record for Sage SalesLogix.

How is OnTheGo Different from Sage SalesLogix Mobile?

Sage SalesLogix Mobile was developed several years ago and continues to evolve.  The approach from Sage has always been to "cache" information on a device they support and synchronize information between the mobile device and the CRM database.  We decided to rely on transacting with the data and serving up relevant information in a way that  it can be leveraged on the local device using a native application to the device for the best user experience.

And of course, the very low cost & simple installation of OnTheGo. With our tiered pricing plan you pay for what you need and leverage your investment in Sage SalesLogix to its fullest. There are no server, software or IT consulting needed to use this app immediately. Simply download at the app store, put in the SalesLogix URL, and start using.
